What Game Should I Watch?

AutoManning lets you know what game to watch each weekend of the NFL season, without spoiling the result for you.

Every game each week is measured against a variety of criteria and ranked accordingly. Because it’s based solely on the numbers, it’s totally unbiased, so you won’t be forced to watch the Pats week after week.

The criteria used is as follows:

  • total points scored
  • points differential
  • the closeness of the game throughout
  • whether a big comeback happened
  • the improbability of the result before kickoff

You can either go straight to Manning’s recommended matchup this week by clicking here, or head over to the current season tab to get the full break down of each week’s games.

This is currently very much a work in progress. Thoughts on the process, analysis of the results, known limitations and any changes in the offing, can be found (probably sporadically) here.

One important consideration when using AutoManning: the “Manning Says…” recommended game will almost always be a good game (very cursory analysis of the results has yet to find a clearly bad game, at least game I would consider to be clearly not worth watching). It fairs less well at always picking the very best game (though it does this reasonably often too). As such, I do recommend using the full results breakdown rather than “Mannning Says…”, and to exercise your own discretion. Very evenly ranked games may differ by ten or twenty points quite easily, so if you see a game second or third in the rankings, and prefer the teams playing, you may be better off watching those games rather than the number one ranked game.
